Video Essay 2008
The Notebook Of Diplomacy shows a land in search of itself. The new Republic of Macedonia hangs between the post communist world and the promise of capitalism from the European Union. We see the country through the eyes of young Samir, once a habitant of Yogoslavia. His father is half Albanian, half Roma, his mother half Bosnian, half Turkish. Because of his diverse ethnic roots, he wishes to belong to the nationality of his birth land Macedonia. But he has no Macedonian blood. Samir gives us insight into the surreal situation that arises when nationality and ethnicity become mixed.
