POLITICAL ENGAGED art project 2011
SPANONYMOUS

SPANONYMOUS is an artists' collective of whom Daniela Paes Leão is founder and spokesperson together with Merel Willemsen and Debra Solomon. In 2010 started the minority cabinet Rutte I which immediately announced substantial cuts in different areas of society and initiated a strong rightwing policy.
SPANONYMOUS launched a media campaign with the ultimate goal of the fall of Rutte I. Together the collective designed and created the SPANDOEKOTHEEK: a growing collection of more than 40 visually attractive handmade banners. The SPANDOEKOTHEEK could be borrowed by organizers of different demonstrations against the plans of the minority cabinet, to make their demonstrations visually strong. Because the media always chose the images of our banners to print in the newspaper or to display on television, supra-sectoral solidarity was radiated.
The cultural sector was also hit unprecedentedly and disproportionately hard by budget cuts. The KUT! Banner, that SPANONYMOUS made especially for the manifestation against these cuts on June 27, 2011 at the Malieveld in The Hague, has been frequently in the news. Also during Occupy Amsterdam 2011 the SPANONYMOUS banners where visible in different media reportages of the event.
During the launch of the Visual Arts Platform in W139 on 27 June 2012, SPANONYMOUS presented some examples of the banner collection for 2013 as a foretaste of what is to come. In addition, SPANONYMOUS regularly gives workshops to make banners to diverse groups.
